We are working with the team at Andrex® on all things toilet tissue!
They have a new campaign launching soon about the importance of being clean, and want to know your thoughts.

They'd love to learn from you about the hilarious things kids say about keeping clean. Take a look at this video and see what other kids have said about being clean and their toilet routine, and let us know how your kids answer the question: How clean do you feel after using the loo?

Andrex® told us, "Teaching children the right intimate clean routine is important to their development. We also know they can come out with some corkers about this period: whether it's surprise with what they can do, or the things you say to them to encourage to keep clean - we'd love MNers to share them with us."

Add your comment to this thread and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £250 Spa voucher and a month supply of Andrex®. Please note comments may be used by MN and Andrex® on social media, on the Andrex® pages on MN or possibly elsewhere: anon of course - but please only add your comment if you're happy for it to be used like this!

Thanks and good luck

Another one with a running commentary on the size and shape of DD2's poos. Dd3 just told me that she did a 'baby bit poo' in the potty. We are v cultured and sophisticated you know!

Good routine for hand washing but a serious fear of hand driers.

lottietiger · 17/06/2014 23:12

My ds always claps himself when he has been, wee or poo, so you can wander off do other stuff and when you hear clapping its time to return for bum wiping duty!

kamikami · 18/06/2014 09:16

My 2 yr old DS did a poo once (still in nappies) and I asked "Have you done a poo?" he said "I can't smell it".
Believe me just because you can't smell it it doesn't mean it hasn't happened!

Alternatively, he does a poo and immediately sits down announcing "I've squished it!". Lovely.

spaghettiarms1 · 18/06/2014 10:02

Obsession with poo shape and size here too, ooh look at my hot dog/ worm/ monster or meatball poo mamma!!! Delightful sweetheart.

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 18/06/2014 11:48

I still remember being in the park with DD when she announced she needed a wee. As she was still in nappies I didn't think anything of it, but next minute I noticed her at the bushes at the edge of the park, trying to pull her trousers down and sticking out her pelvis... she had obviously remembered what happened when DS got caught out there once before and had to wee in the bushes. We had to explain about the difference between boys' wees and girls' wees after that!

My toddler daughter is so independent. This has recently gone one step further in that she now wants to wipe MY bottom when I'm in the loo. Much to my surprise, she tried to do it without warning the other day saying 'Mummy, I helping you!'

TheHouseatWhoCorner · 18/06/2014 18:10

My DD sometimes struggles with constipation. I feel quite sorry for her that the whole family waits with baited breath to hear what sort of sounds comes out of the bathroom when she visits the loo.
But as to cleaning, she loves to sing happy birthday while washing her hands. I just wish she'd pay a bit more attention to getting all the grime off before using the towel (I'm meaning food, pen, mud etc here, not toilet-related grime!).

skyeskyeskye · 18/06/2014 20:42

DD struggles to wipe her bum properly. I've taught her to wipe until the paper is clean. Then she uses a toilet wipe. It's still a struggle with her to lean properly :(

SaltySeaBird · 18/06/2014 20:57

DD is just becoming aware of poos and I think potty training will start soon.

Yesterday she was playing and did a poo but didn't want to stop to have her nappy changed. I asked her if she had done one and she said " oh no, oh no, oh no, no poo"

TooConfusedDotCom · 18/06/2014 21:48

DD (6) has recently started covering her whole hand in toilet roll so she can 'clean properly' it uses loads of loo roll and takes her ages but it works.

Well untill she shows me her 'trick' of spinning the loo roll off, after she has wiped! Cue me dodging a poohy windmill!

ShangriLaLaLa · 18/06/2014 22:26

DS could wipe his bot but prefers to poo and without letting anyone know, bend double over the bath or whatever is available, stick his backside in the air and wait until someone passes by and then demand a poo wipe. Goodness knows how long he waits. Once he did it with the front door wide open (we have a long drive) and I was interrupted by the window cleaner, asking if he should do the honours Blush

Think that ad is a little too twee. Can't imagine DS would talk about gold and diamonds. Think it would all be a little 'earthier'.

Love the topic though. We talk about poo non-stop at home. Mr Poo Goes to Pooland is practically on our reading list.

Dd is 7.6 and is very good at the two sheets rule in our house; two sheets at a time. Then hand washing "fingers thumbs, backs and fronts" is my motto.

After attending many birthday parties with her, I'm horrified at how many children her age don't wash their hands at all or just rinse their fingers until I put them straight! after using the toilet.
I'm also a stickler for hand washing before food and send a Tupperware box in Dds lunch bag with baby wipes inside as I'd much rather she used one of those than nothing at all before eating her lunch.
Ds is a little too old to monitor his toileting habits, but he's a good hand washer.

Andrex and Kleenex used to make Dd sore, so we changed until we found one that didn't. Haven't tried it for a while now.

We never flush anything other than toilet paper after our toileting habits either.

stealthsquiggle · 19/06/2014 00:32

I too am slightly startled how many people use not really flushable wipes. Living in a house with a septic tank would soon cure you of that Smile. Knowing that you may well see it again makes you think twice about what you are flushing.

My DC are well beyond the funny poo comments, for better or worse. All I get nowadays is DD reporting her "runny poos" - generally something to do with having eaten an entire punnet of my cherries.

Tyranasaurus · 19/06/2014 10:27

We use washable wipes. My 2 year old just pooed in the potty, wet loads of wipes, wiped her bum very thoroughly,... and left them in a pile in the middle of the coffee table

Babycarmen · 19/06/2014 12:29

My eldest DD (6) once asked me to fetch her a book because her poo is taking AGES to come out and thats what daddy does!! Grin

RubySparks · 19/06/2014 13:25

When my DC were young enough to need help with toileting I remember trying not to make poo 'dirty' but have it as a normal bodily process so I think there can be too much emphasis on 'clean'. Also agree that wipes are not a good thing for the environment (or e sewage system) and as we have a septic tank not something I would use anyway. It is also important for girls to clean themselves with just plain water rather than perfumed products.

deels · 19/06/2014 14:04

i find having exciting hand washes helps getting the little ones to wash their hands. once i walked in to the bathroom to find my DD washing her feet with the new handwash..... eeek.

Jinty64 · 19/06/2014 15:16

Ds3 likes to give a running commentary when he's in the toilet. Size, shape and colour are anounced to all and sundry. Fortunately he is fastidious about cleanliness and announces the use of toilet paper, wet wipe and liquid soap.

TwigletFiend · 19/06/2014 15:45

Not my DC but DP's nephew - still hilarious! He's 4. Recently came out of the toilet and announced:

'I just did a poo. It looked like a prawn.' Thoughtful look at my DP. 'Uncle Pete likes prawns!'

Grin
TwigletFiend · 19/06/2014 15:47

Should also add that he is in the process of learning to sort himself out after having a poo and performs a 'poo patrol' for residue on the toilet roll to make sure it is clean before flushing. A bit grim, but effective!

IncaAztec · 19/06/2014 17:52

We have taught our DD to wipe until the paper is clean, however she tends to shout the shape of a poo outside instead 'is like a crocodile mummy!' Being my favourite...

Geneticsbunny · 19/06/2014 19:03

We recently had aunty Kathryn to stay and whilst out at a very busy kids swimming pool, you know the kind with slides, my angelic little 3 year old daughter (ahem) wanted aunty K to take her to the loo. They returned about 20 minutes later when my dd announced that she had been 'making sausages' in a very loud voice. Apparently she had been giving an in depth piece by piece narration of the entire event as it happened! Arent children lovely :-)

Bubbles85 · 19/06/2014 19:15

My child can't talk yet but when she gets messy food on her hands she holds the out with a disgusted look until I wipe them clean for her!

Mummytoboyz7 · 20/06/2014 09:35

My DS asked for a new bum for Christmas as his had a hole in it!

Doubtfuldaphne · 20/06/2014 13:00

My daughter likes to wave goodbye to every poo. They also have names.
"Bye Terry!"
"Well done Beatrice!"
"Excellent work Dave!"
