You might have seen that Mumsnet is supporting the new LifeSkills programme, created with Barclays. It's something we all feel passionate about, and as [[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sponsored_discussions/1760262-Talk-work-experience-experiences-and-views-with-Barclays-one-MNer-will-win-a-200-JL-voucher
you've told us]], young people need help if they're going to get into the world of work.

Take a look at LifeSkills, and tell us how you think it's doing? Pledge your support by clicking on the widget above.

LifeSkills Work Week runs from 17 to 21 June 2013 and is an opportunity for schools to get their pupils involved in a range of work-related opportunities, from LifeSkills workshops and resources, careers fairs and business and parent speaking opportunities as well as getting their students out on work experience opportunities.

There are lots of ways you can support the LifeSkills movement. And if you're already getting involved, let us know how!

Let us know your thoughts on this thread - everyone who adds a comment or shares how they are supporting the programme will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks

Hello - thanks for all the feedback so far.
Please do also share on the thread if you have managed to send on the link to your DC's school, or to your employer/ business.

A few of you have asked about the background to this and why Barclays are getting involved. Below is a response from them.

"LifeSkills has been created as a programme that can be run by any school or business ? it's definitely not a Barclays-only campaign. In fact lots of businesses, plus the CBI, have already got involved.
Of course the Government has a responsibility to help young people find work opportunities, but we believe individual businesses have a role to play too, so this is our way of getting them involved in a more active way. We've also made sure that all LifeSkills materials used in schools has been given the thumbs up by independent reviewers, so there?s no mention of Barclays products or services. Ultimately LifeSkills is about providing real support to young people. Teachers have asked for this kind of support, so that?s why we?re doing it".

Thanks
