Hello! We've been asked by the lovely people at Guinness World Records to find out...

If you had your own personal world record, what would it be? Or what would your DH/DP or DC's world record be? Obviously we're not all record breakers but there must be something you or someone in your family particularly excels in?! This is just a bit of fun so please tell us about your record-busting achievement is - however big or small, real or imaginary - and in whatever field (although please keep it clean people!). You may find some inspiration here.

Everyone who adds their record-breaking comments to this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Play.com voucher.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I hold the world record for finding excuses so that my DH has to get up with the DC every morning, giving me a lie in. Grin If excuses don't work then secretly ringing the house phone from my mobile does!

ThePsychicSatsuma · 16/11/2011 15:16

I ate 8 packs of sandwiches at work one christmas, just overcoming hyperemesis. Everyone watched me, mouths open. That is a record amidst my circle.

kandinskysgirl · 16/11/2011 16:44

I am the record breaker for knowing exactly what word DP means when he says, 'you know thingy who went to whatsherplace and met her thingymajig', most of our conversations are like this.

I feel like I am fluent in a lesser known tribal language.

zipzap · 16/11/2011 18:42

I think ds1(6) is currently in the running for world's most over optimistic Christmas list.

It currently has:

  • please turn me into a real wizard that can do real magic.
  • I'd like to be master of the entire universe and in charge of everything and know everything about everything
  • one of those things for copying things to draw them more easily
  • a new pair of goggles

I'm trying to explain as nicely as I can that Santa might have a few problems with the first couple :)

mumdad2kidsandadog · 16/11/2011 18:54

DD had the world's longest eyelash for ages. It was about 6cm long. I managed to get a photo but it fell out a few weeks ago. She was gutted to lose it.
:)

She is now trying to beat the record for world's smelliest hamster cage but I will have to put a stop to that one.

Merrylegs · 17/11/2011 08:17

I hold the world record for finding other people' things.

I may have been a bloodhound. Or a St Bernard. Or a heat seeking missile in another life. I can find anything anyone has 'lost'.

In fact I'm now so good at it I don't even need to know what the thing is.

All I need to hear are the words 'Mum, Where's my....'
and it's like this sixth sense kicks in - 'bottom of the wardrobe in your bedroom'.

It must be a magical ability actually because NO ONE ELSE has any idea how to do it.

CroissantNeuf · 17/11/2011 08:28

NEWSFLASH ....LIVE ACTION....as I type, DS is attempting the world record for longest amount of time taken to get dressed.

DD has the world record for procrastination.

Lobelia · 17/11/2011 18:04

I must hold the world record for phrases ending in "...that's not a horse." For example..."That's a ukulele; not a horse!" or the often uttered, "That's a box of cereal, not a horse!" My DS is completely horse obsessed and will attempt a cheeky canter on animal, mineral or vegetable. :)

cather · 18/11/2011 19:19

I hold the world record for managing to fit in the most meetings for voluntary positions in a week! Recently I had meetings for Cubs, PTA, Playgroup, Our local festival committee, Scouts, County Scouts and a camp meeting all in the same week and one two nights I went from one meeting to another!

5inthebed · 18/11/2011 19:27

I actually did once take part in a real actual Guiness World Record attempt. It was for the longest kebab on swewers back in 1991. we didn't manage it, can't remember how far we were of though as was only 11 at the time.

My own personal record, saying the phrase "get your hands out of your pants" repetitively numerous times every day for the past 8 years, and still climbing.

stayathomegardener · 21/11/2011 12:08

I did suggest "Most Chickens balanced on head and outstretched arms" as a possible new record to Guiness World Records,DD did lots of practice and we were all ready to start breeding very small Bantams-They said noConfused

stayathomegardener · 21/11/2011 12:10

We did apply for "Fastest Ferret" but that was quite a tough one and DD's Ferrets didn't have a racing gene.

stayathomegardener · 21/11/2011 12:14

Longest stretched Curley Wurley was another one we tried, again unsuccessfully, bit of a tip though lay them on the floor and crack up the underfloor heating, much easier to stretch but watch when the chocolate shatters off- it melts to the floor, also not great to eat afterwards because they do get dusty

philmassive · 21/11/2011 12:42

My personal world record has to be for The Woman Who Repeats Herself Most Often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often, repeats herself most often.... oops, sorry, got stuck in a loop there. Grin

What I usually say is 'get your shoes on', 'get your shoes on', 'get your coat on' 'get your coat on', 'get your bag', 'get your bag', 'get in the car', 'get in the car', 'have you got everything?', 'have you got everything?', 'do your seatbelt up', 'do your seat belt up' ad infinitum...

I do recognise that this is a very strongly contended category amongst mothers Wink

purpleknittingmum · 21/11/2011 13:12

Hmm, my daughter must hold some sort of record for losing stuff in her room. I gave up tidying it up as within a short space of time it was just as bad. At times she can't find her hairbrush, important papers etc

Our cat has a record for the number of places he sleeps in

I am good at being shouty and grumpy. Oh perhaps the longest amount of time taken to complete a fairly small cross stitch picture, still not done, about 3/4 finished after about 8/9 years!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 21/11/2011 15:21

My ds must hold the record for longest Brio traintrack known to mankind. He's spent most of the day making a giant structure that now reaches every room of the flat. ANd it's not that small a flat Shock And I clearly hold the record for most money wasted spent on train track.

stayathomegardener · 21/11/2011 17:11

I'm really not 'getting' this thread am I Smilebut still persisting DD and I were recently part of the worlds biggest tree hug

QOD · 21/11/2011 17:20

I win the prize for the most holiday disasters!!

in no particular order they include......

  • flying over to Norway for 2 days/1 night for a funeral. The day before the ashcloud.... spending an extra week trapped in the most expensive country in about the world before travelling back in a 42 hr epic journey including 24 hrs on a mini bus, a train from Amsterdam to Lille (thru Belgium and Holland in to France) then a taxi (as the Frence train drivers went on strike on the Calais line) to Calais - foot passengers on the ferry (for an eye watering £65 a head) to be picked up by the hubby in a 2 seater van. There were 6 of us, the other 4 got picked up by BIL and MY car was at Gatwick. In the short stay car park. As the valet parkers wouldn't take my car as I had forgotten to put my tax disc in....

  • Being hospitalised in Cyprus for a week and undergoing surgery in a filthy mouldy hospital to bypass my kidney with a stent when said kidney got blocked by a HUGE 15mm stone

  • Just last year spending 3 days SNOWED in to Gatwick airport. When the runway finally opened, the Spainish went on strike. We then re booked from Luton ..... train to Luton from Gatwick - you guessed it, they extended the strike. We gave up and went home.

  • Just this Xmas gone, due to fly to Las Vegas on the 23rd December with entire family, sister getting married there etc etc - rushed in on the 18th December to hospital with a 8mm kidney stone and .... blocked kidney. Surgery to fit another stent ......... fit to fly hurrah

  • Flying to Philly and arriving with a little girl, dressed as an English princess, waving a union Jack and carrying my handbag, some quavers and a buggy. My luggage arrived the next day.............. My phone didn't even turn on in AMerica so I couldn't retrieve friends phone no and she wasn't there to meet me.... All finally ended well.

  • Flying back from Tenerife. Suitcase came, waited and waited and waited - checked case that we had, yes that was the one with fags, booze, electrics etc, the other was just towels and dirty clothes so not THAT bothered. About to go report it missing when the conveyor restarted and up popped one flat case with muddy tyre marks on it. I laughed until I cried.

  • Flew back from Portugal. My case went to Vienna. Came home 2 days later

  • Flew to Barcelona last month, the little pushy tractor broke down

  • Specially selected to have full you look totally naked body scan at Vegas airport with plastic stent inside body. Looked like I had swallowed a curly straw

  • Laughed so much on a flight from Rome that the lady in the aisle opposite thanked my friends and I for the inflight entertainment. She'd enjoyed every moment. We were selfishly unaware that we were so loud

  • Due to fly this Tuesday - fog clouds descending - watch this space!

There's more but I'll leave it there. Thinking of writing a book. "Around the world in disasterous ways"

noyouhavehadawee · 21/11/2011 18:01

My dh must surely hold the record for how much bellybutton flush he can generate in a week - i know this because he collects it onthe side of the bath Hmm

noyouhavehadawee · 21/11/2011 18:02

arghh i mean belly button fluff.

noyouhavehadawee · 21/11/2011 18:03

He also thinks he holds a record for homw many miles he can hyper mile in a journey.....

5inthebed · 21/11/2011 20:44

Makes mental note never to book a flight with QOD.

Littlewoodsmuvvah · 21/11/2011 22:48

I wonder who holds the record for most hours mumsnetting? Or most posts? Most namechanges? It isn't me but I'm having a good go.
:)

Solo · 21/11/2011 23:24

I must hold the record for lateness. I forget that the 15 minute journey without traffic actualy takes 45 minutes. Or the 90 mile drive to my friends will actually take 90/100 minutes, not 30. I forget that there will be schools out or that I'll need to scrape ice and snow from the car, so ought to leave an extra half hour for that...I'm always late.

I was 15 minutes late for my first wedding...I was 20 minutes late for my second wedding...In fairness, I should have just not bothered going at all.
I always joke that I'll be late for my own funeral. Because I will be.

zipzap · 22/11/2011 00:17

Reading these has inspired a few more...

Definitely in line for spending way more time reading and posting on MN than I should do, especially instead of doing housework Blush

Voice that has had the biggest increase in volume since having children especially when they are ignoring me.

then:
Honeymoon that has predicted current world meltdown - we travelled through Europe and had a cruise that included Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Greece, Italy, Spain, Malta and France.

So far only Malta and France seem to be untouched by either the financial or political crises - and apparently there was an article in the paper the other day saying that France is having a few wobbles.

Also ds1 has come up with another one - creating indoor fireworks with the most paper airplanes thrown at a single time (as a large stack that then separate like a firework...Hmm). With approximately 50 airplanes all made and then thrown at once down the stairs and across the hall - obviously far more important that getting dressed and ready for school in the morning (one of the reasons that my voice is getting louder!)

ds2 is definitely the cuddliest 3 year old out -he always wants a cuddle and he only has to spot somebody sitting down to be dragging his toys over to them to snuggle in and play whilst snuggled up next to someone!
