DS , 18 yo has autism and LD, cannot make informed decision. Recently had admin issues and people refused to allow me to sort it on his behalf, they talked about a letter of authority but he doesn't have mental capacity to understand so unsure how valid it is. It's frustrating, I care for him solely, but unsure how to look after his health and interests. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

If DS lacks capacity to make power of attorney, the LPA route isn’t an option.

You could look at health and welfare deputyship.

You might not need finance and property deputyship. If DS’s only income/capital is benefits, being appointee will suffice.

A letter of authority wouldn’t allow you to make all decisions for DS. It doesn’t sound like DS could sign such a letter anyway.
