DD2 23 years old diagnosed global developmental delay. I suspect also has inattentive ADHD. And has severe mental health diagnosis bipolar (8 years ago) but I psychiatrist got that wrong it’s more like burn out and severe anxiety and depression.

We have an apt booked with the gp practice nurse to discuss a change of contraception.

Hormone based contraceptive is not great for DD2. The boyfriend and DD can not be trusted to use condoms.

I’m asking here does anyone have experience of their young person using the copper coil?

Wouldn't get the copper coil but the mirena 100%

@slx have you used the copper coil/ know someone who has?

tbh I’m not wild about any coil. I had the mirena. Insertion was so painful I kept the same one in for 17 years! I also think it triggered my depression and I was on Citalopram for years.

For those with additional needs, it can sometimes be possible to have coils inserted under GA.

@inthequietofdawn I think this might be necessary. I know of a lady who has to be sedated for every smear test but she lives in a different part of the country. Hope our health authority is as understanding
