Would you appeal ending an EHCP for an autistic 18yo?

DS18 will have 1 Level 3 qual at the end of this year in a vocational area he is no longer interested in. He wants to leave this college and maybe try to get into uni through an Access course. A whole other thread on whether he is able!

The LA got wind of this plan through the college being useless, and have ceased his EHCP saying he has a level3, that's the end of his support. But it isn't enough to get him into anything else.

I am wondering if I should bother appealing this. If I do it will be mainly out of annoyance that everyone has just been tin eared about his plans. I have no idea what, if any, support would come on an Access to HE course but he is still, surprise surprise, autistic and has ADHD!

WWYD? Appeal in case he starts something new in a year that needs support, or just go it ourselves without an EHCP and see where it takes us?

To add, even the thought of an appeal at this point is exhausting me!

What rules, genuine question? He isn't 'finished' Level 3 he is just a bit lost about what to do next

You might as well appeal, the EHCP must be maintained until the conclusion of the appeal. Did the LA follow the correct process when proposing to cease to maintain.

Most Access to HE courses are level 3 courses so the EHCP can continue for that.

Has DS had any specialist careers advice?

Thanks @ChasingMoreSleep he spoke to an advisor at college but more about routes into uni to study Humanities. He has no idea what he wants to do, but wants to take a year out next year to try to find something, as he won't be old enough to for Access until 2027.

Rather than a year out, what about a year focused on PfA? That can be part of the EHCP.

It sounds like DS needs some specialist carers advisor input. And probably some study skills support.
