Private autism assessment for teen

DS15 has recently disclosed to a teacher that he has self harmed and has thoughts or suicide. We have had the crisis team round with a few further appoinymrnts arranged and a CYPS appointment with a psychiatrist in the next few days.

The crisis team who came round said they could not diagnose but felt there were more than a few autistic traits they could identify.

This isn't a complete shock as we had wondered. However he is just about to sit GCSEs and then will be leaving for a separate college in nearby city. Ideally if he was going to be diagnosed with autism I feel it would be helpful this happens before he starts college so waiting for the NHS is out. What are people's experience of private autism assessments for teens?

We didn’t use a private assessment but that’s not because I don’t think they are good. Have you got any further with your search? dN was diagnosed privately but that was a service specialising in girls.

All of this must have been an awful shock for you. You might find the book Teens Who Cut helpful. Have you applied for an ECHP yet? You can do this now, you don’t have to wait for a diagnosis Flowers
