My 19 year old DD has just dropped out of her college course
she has no idea really what she wants to do
although she quite likes the idea of maybe doing nails ?

She Doesn’t have any GCSE’s and has a dx of ASD

I wish I knew what I could do to help, I want to her to have opportunities

she currently has a part time job in a local shop, can anyone advise on what we can do to help her either find another college course or find an apprenticeship?

DD does have an EHCP

TIA

Has an early review of the EHCP been requested?

I think the starting point is understanding why DD has stopped spending college? For example, was it the college environment, the academics, the subject, travel…

What support is in the EHCP currently?

Hi
thanks for your post
no I haven’t requested a review

DD had her last college review in Jan

it was the environment at college that DD did not like
she has been at the college the year previously and was ok there , but there had been lots of changes to staff due to redundancies

DD found it very difficult and also didn’t really gel with anyone on her new course

Her EHCP provides support for DD when working in the classroom and support when anxious

im not sure what to do now , I feel we are left not knowing where or how to get her support ,?

Request an early review of the EHCP. This isn’t the same as a college review. It is an early annual review of the EHCP. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

It sounds like the EHCP is poor. Is there no input from people like SALT and OT? And some therapeutic support for DD’s anxiety?

Does DD have any suggestions of what and/or where will work?

Think about what type of placement will work for DD? Do you have any in mind?

Is she happy working in the shop? She is earning and gaining independence.
My ds 18 has a year at college but couldn't face going back. Has a sad diagnosis from six.
He upped his hours at the pub he works at and we got him a little scooter to commute,as I'd had enough of taking and collecting for two years.
I'm just hoping he grows up, realises opportunities are out there and gains some confidence.
It is a worry though.
