NHS care after private diagnosis in Scotland

Hi my child has a private ADHD diagnosis. After waiting almost 10yrs with CAHMS we paid for a private NHS registered psychiatrist. We're looking to get them back into the NHS system and had spoken with our go before the diagnosis who suggested it was a relatively simple process. However now they are at uni in Scotland and have been told by the GP there that they must go back on the waiting list (another 5 years). I was hoping someone might have experience of this in Scotland. Without medication they really struggle and it's not affordable to continue privately.

Did your GP take over shared care for medication following a private diagnosis, but your child now moved away for uni and had to register with new GP who is unable to offer this?

GPs don’t have to agree to shared care. Increasingly GPs aren’t for those who have been diagnosed privately.
