Hi everyone,

For a bit of background my DD is 24 and diagnosed with AuDHD,PDA and ARFID.

I will try and cut straight to the point and not give you a run down of how impossibly hard it’s been,so please go gentle with me 🙏

So the bottom line is my daughter’s teeth are in a terrible state.
I’m talking crumbling teeth and cavities on most teeth. She is often in pain and it kills me that we have come to this.
We had the perfect storm of resistance to tooth brushing due to sensory issues and restricted eating and drinking which meant if she was eating anything it was a relief !

She has finally come to the decision that she wants to get something sorted which is such a relief to me but I don’t know where to start as she has always refused to see a dentist.

We spoke about her concerns and the major one is being judged and if I’m honest I feel like that too 😢

If I could tell you the amount of toothbrushes , mouthwash ,water flosssers ,sticker charts in the early days we would have enough money to pay the dentist bills 😊

The only saving grace is that I had a small inheritance and I have put this aside for her to get her smile back hopefully.

If anyone has had a similar journey I would be so grateful for any advice .
Even searching losing teeth so early adulthood is not something that is commonly talked about so I’m struggling to find help .

Thank you so much for reading

Look at a referral to the special care community dental service. They are specialists in treating people with additional needs. Most areas have a long wait for this but if DD is in pain she will be prioritised. Although there is likely to still be a wait.

Agree with above. Water down any soft drinks. Try and be a bit firmer.

Speak to GP to refer her to Dental Hospital.

Oh I feel for you. Drinking through a straw helps as it bypasses the teeth. Dr Barman's toothbrushes also helped here - lack of brushing sometimes motor skills rather than sensory? good luck
