ADHD dosage titration

DS is 16, actually 17 next week. He has been recently diagnosed with ADHD.

He was initially put on a dose of 10mg methylphenidate for 7 days and then 3 weeks of 20mg. He was meant to have a review whilst on 20mg but that got cancelled by CAMHS. We were given another appointment after 3 week delay and DH took DS to it. They came back with a 20mg dosage prescription and a review in 6 months.
Does this sound right? My understanding was that he would be upping the dose to find the optimum dose which I thought would be higher than 20mg for his weight (59Kg). Is 20mg quite a low dose?
He finds it difficult to concentrate in class and the 20mg has made a difference, but a slightly higher dose might be even better - he has shown no side effects on the 20mg dose.

Is it worth contacting them to see what's going on?

Thanks

Dose varies hugely. I know a girl on 25mg and another on 110mg. He needs to find out what works for him. If he thinks his dose is too low, he should be able to try a higher dose.

I know that upping the dosage is more likely to cause side effects.

Thanks for your replies. He's trying 30mg now. He's focusing better (according to him), but also it took a while to stop him being a bit nauseas with it. Now he is saying that food tastes weird so he doesn't like taking it all week, so he's taking it when he's got a full day of lessons. I don't know whether to contact CAMHS again to ask if perhaps 25mg might be worth trying.
