School for ADHD teen with ODD strong

Dd14 has adhd with a strong streak of odd. She is on medication (second type we’ve tried) but she is underweight and the dose she’s on works for a minimal time and seems to make her moody

I’m really worried she’s going to be asked to leave her school. She just doesn’t seem to understand and is so angry with the world

are there any schools out there that will take kids with these issues?. She’s bright and has the potential to do well academically but I’d be happy if she just did enough to move on to the next stages of life

I'm feeling very lost and heartbroken tbh

There are SEMH SS. Does DD have an EHCP? Has she had EP, OT and SALT assessments?

State schools can’t just ask pupils to leave. Is the school DD is currently in an independent school?

Has anyone considered ASD with a PDA profile rather than ODD?

The SN boards are quieter, especially the teen board, but you don’t get some of the replies lacking understanding you get on the main boards.

She doesn’t have an ehcp and is at a private school which are doing their best but she just doesn’t understand what she is doing wrong

i am trying to get her to see a psychiatrist over the meds and hope they will also assess for other profiles

she's also really upset because she doesn’t understand why school doesn’t work for her and she’s scared she won’t get an education

I avoided other boards because I’ve seen ‘just tell her to behave’ or ‘put her on meds’. If only

You need to request an EHCNA. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

Private schools section for specific advice on that, but also maybe the medication she is on is not right for her. We went through a few and landed with Elvanse that works well for DD16. I also went through private school system for secondary and some are better than others so it depends where you are but I did a lot of research on this.

Do a post in the private school section and mention the area you are in. I got some great advice on there. For me it was more about where she went post 16 but originally also used it when I was making the secondary decision.

Not sure where you're based but Stoke College in Suffolk is meant to be good with adhd. They have boarding and also a sixth form. I don’t have personal experience, just looking at them as a possibility for DC.
