ASD/ADHD Diagnosis for young adult dd

I hope someone can help with working out how to proceed. (I am a regular on mn but have name changed for this as so many details.)

I have a dd (19) who we strongly suspect has ASD. Quite possibly also ADHD.

At school no one ever raised any alarm bells - she was seen as quiet, a bit distracted, etc - but nothing more. But often quite difficult at home. And at secondary school in particular she excelled academically and is now about to start a very demanding uni degree.

She really wants to get a diagnosis as she thinks that may help her access some support at uni if she needs it. One of her main issues is anxiety.

We think we probably need to go somewhere privately but want to avoid somewhere that just churns out a quick diagnosis for a price. It would be good to also be able to access some therapy sessions. We are in London.

thank you.

I think I’m right in saying that as long as a place meets NICE guidelines they shouldn’t be churning out diagnoses. I think it is generally accepted now that a private diagnosis is as good as NHS if not a bit more detailed. That’s my experience anyway. We used Mind Professionals. We chose them because they also do NHS right to choose assessments and we figured if the NHS are contracting their services they should be fine. And they were great. There are loads of other providers. A female family member used ADHD 360 for Right to Choose ADHD assessment and she found them good. Waited around 7-8 months.
