How did you know when your child with asd/adhd was ready to be home alone?

My son is almost 13 and my hand may be forced soon. I haven't wanted to, but our childminder just closed her business with no notice. I work 3 days a week until 5pm. So given the lack of childcare for this age, I am considering it. I know it's very individual, but I'm after how you knew it was time to try - and how did it go?
My sons issues are mainly around other kids, I actually think he will probably be okay at home as he will literally just sit and stare at the TV. Where as he has massive meltdowns at school and altercations with other children due to his issues with social interactions. But I am anxious to get this right.

Can you test the situation by seeing how he gets on if you leave him for shorter periods. ds1 and ds2 we left from a bit younger (on their own but not together as they would have likely clashed) with strict instructions not to cook etc and with a phone so they could contact us. But we started with shorter periods & then gradually worked up.
