My son is diagnosed with ADHD and traits of autism . He is on a construction apprenticeship. He has taken the written and oral parts of his final exams and got a distinction in the oral . The final part is a construction piece over.2 days . His practice lessons have not gone well. He is really down and has convinced himself he cannot pass it . He manager has said he can resit if he fails and I have told him it doesn’t matter but he is so stressed out . He is talking about leaving his job. He says he is depressed and I don’t know what to do or say to “lift” him . It’s very sad seeing him struggle as I know he can do it and in his day to day work he does well . Any suggestions how I could help?

That sounds really tough. I'm sorry i haven't got any magic answers.

Exams are a lot for young people to cope with at the best of times.

I don't know if it would help but when I feel paralysed by doubts sometimes I tell myself just focus on the next 10 minutes.

It's possible he's feeling paralysed by the difficult emotions that come up when faced with a task that feels too hard.

Have you watched any of the 'how to ADHD' videos on you tube? They're really informative and help me realise we aren't alone with our ADHD son and that there are some strategies out there that, can help.
