Appointee bank account 16 year old

I’m in the process of applying for UC for my son, and I’m wondering if I should have a separate appointee bank account for him.
i am paranoid that if something happened to me suddenly, sorting out his finances wouldn’t be easy for my husband.

He currently receives PIP and it would make sense to have that transferred into the account automatically along with UC, so all his money is in one place for a care giver to access, but due to his disability, I couldn’t take him to a bank and I’d need to access the account online.

Are there any disadvantages to setting up an appointee bank account? Can anyone else access this like DWP without my permission?
Any recommendations?

I had read that carers can have a prepaid card which would be a good idea as eventually my son will go into supported living.

I just want his life to be impacted as least as possible should anything happen to us, his parents.

I think the disadvantage is they aren’t as common which is why even if someone wants a separate account some just set up another account in their own name.

I don’t think they can be accessed by anyone.

My daughter has a Lloyds current account with me on the account as an appointee. They don’t let you manage the account online or didn’t at the time it was set up. Your son will need his own account to have UC paid into.

If OP wants DS’s UC paid into her account, it can be. It isn't a requirement for DS to have his own account.

Thank you @vjg13 @perpetualplatespinning

The guidelines state Ds has to have his own bank account on the “get ready for your call form”
but I’ll ask for extenuating circumstances as these surely apply.

He doesn’t. As appointee, it can be paid into your account. See this government document.

Thanks @perpetualplatespinning I’ve saved it x
