Hi there, Im a mum to a 13 year old girl who Im expecting will be starting her period any time soon now. My daughter has a condition called Rahmans Syndrome and this causes many development delays, along with autisum.
She my be 13 but her personality and character is more like a 7 year old. She is aware that me and her sister have periods, that we bleed, use towels/tampax, how they work etc. She is even aware that our dog has periods!
But, I don't feel that the conversations Ive tried to have with her about all this is actually going in or being understood. Ive googled some possible appropriate books to read through with her but in reality, I have no idea on how Im going to handle this and more importantly I have no idea how she is going to handle this. Can anyone, teenager or parent give me any advice on how to possibly deal with this.

Some find period pants easier.

I presume DD is in SS? If so, speak to them.

Also speak to DD’s medical team. Some take 2 or 3 packs of the pill back to back before having a break. Others use other medication to reduce the flow.

You might find some of the resources suggested by Mencap here helpful.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Im have been looking at the period pants, they seem to be my best option at the moment.
She's not in school until September due to there being no school places available but it is a conversation I intend to have with them when we have our meetings.
I shall have a read through of the mencap info. I perviously had a link but it was no where near as much info as yours, so thank you for that.

If DD isn’t in school, the LA should still be proving a suitable full-time education and anything detailed, specified and quantified in F of the EHCP. If they are, ask the professionals involved. If they aren’t, complain. There’s little point in enforcing provision now for just a few weeks before the end of term, instead complain that it hasn’t already been put in place with the intention of going to the LGO.

DD has 2x 2 hours 1:1 tutoring sessions a week and been on a waiting list for mentoring for 6 months and have been complaining about lack of involvement for almost 12 months now. They have failed section F completely since September. Oh long story short....tribunal fight against LA named school. LA chosen School made clear 3 times to LA that they could not meet need but LA would not back down, then tried to threaten me by saying I was risking prosecution for her non attendance. Its been a farce! Even tribunal services couldn't work out why the council where taking the route they were. Your fighting a broken system, theres only so much you can get done.

In case you need to enforce provision in the future, the normal timescales of the LA’s formal complaints process are too long to be a suitable remedy. Going down the pre-action letter/JR route is generally seen as the better option for enforcing provision. This applies for provision detailed, specified and quantified in F of the EHCP and s19 provision.
