Adhd medication non stimulant advice

Ds 13 has coped ok with short acting medikinet for the last year (as didn’t bother with second dose) so didn’t affect his sleep but he still complains about awful shakes and anxiety while on it although it helps him stay on track at school (until it wears off)
He now refuses to take it and so back to getting into trouble.
Next step is to try the elavanse although he really doesn’t get on with long acting stimulants.
Then next one is non stimulants. Anyone had luck with reducing anxiety but still able to help with impulsivity behaviour??

@Isitorisitnot12 He could combine meds. If he gets on with methylphenidate, he could take guanfacine in the evening. Guanfacine reduces heart rate so might help with physical feelings of anxiety.

Hello, my youngest who is 9yo, takes both 20mg Elvanese in the morning and then 1mg of Guanfacine in the evening. It took him a good 8 weeks for me to see the Guanfacine benefits .
My eldest son who is 10 tried both Medikenet and Elvanese and couldn’t cope on it, was fine during the day at school but the rebound was too much for him, lots of non character violence and aggression too. It’s just on Guanfacine now and it’s still early days but I’ll happily share progress. I hope you find a happy ground for your child x

@CherieD2016 have you tried short acting medikinet on your eldest?
my son had the same awful rebound on the long active ones but is better on the short acting one. Only downside is he is in secondary and it’s his responsibility to take the second dose and so he doesn’t but the first dose gives him a good start to the day so better than nothing.
Good luck

@CherieD2016 what is Guanfacine?
Never heard of it

My advice is to try the Elvanse. DD16 is great on this but others not so much. Her meltdowns after college are practically non existent now as long as she gets her decompression time (iPad and food) when she gets home.
