DD17 really struggles with her mood and meltdowns/shutdowns prior to and during the first couple of days of her period. She can't function, go to school or express herself. She went to the GP and was prescribed the progesterone only pill. She can't have the combined pill due to migraines. She is not sexually active so not for contraception.
I've just had a Google and almost every article mentions that autistic woman can often not tolerate progesterone only due to affect on mood.Does anyone have experience or advice?Posting on Neurodiverse mumsnetters too.

No advice sorry but my 14 year old autistic DD is the same. I think she has PMDD and despite numerous GP visits they just offer the pill which she has tried but it made it worse and she bled constantly for 2 months.

Thank you for replying.I am worried it will make things worse especially as she has her A levels coming up.

Hi, my DD and I are both autistic. I have had no problem with mini-pill but DD's moods got much worse when she tried it, to the point where we had to take her off them. I've been on mine for over 5 years and not had a single side effect.
So I would say not every autistic person will have the same reaction.

DD had terrible PMT. I tried her on St John's Wort which did make a difference. It didn't occur to me to go to the GP about it (although it was lockdown and so we probably wouldn't have been seen face to face). She took it for a couple of years. Now her hormones seem to have calmed down a bit.
