No Health Care

My son has complex needs. On becoming an adult he lost all his LD support as he is considered to bright (IQ 70 - cut off 69) and mainstream services consider him too complex. He is on the Dynamic Support Register but only has the GP in terms of health. He has PWS and Autism and has suffered psychotic episodes - yet nothing. We have had a 'review' with an independent panel (nothing) and have a HOLD meeting in two weeks - apparently 'no guarantees of anything' according to the person at the integrated care board with responsibility for keeping disabled and autistic people out of hospital. Anyone with a similar experience?

How old is DS? If young enough, does he have an EHCP?

Does your area have an Assertive Outreach Team/Enhanced MH Team? They usually take on more complex patients.

Has CETR or CTR (depending on DS’s age) been held?

Depending on DS’s needs, have you considered pursuing CHC funding?

@BrightYellowTrain - thank you - really useful. My son is 21, we live in the south west which is a real desert when it comes to comprehensive care but we do seem to have an Assertive Outreach team. I will investigate. Your response is really appreciated.

Does DS still have an EHCP? If so, that opens doors because health care provision which educates or trains is actually special educational provision, so should be in F and is the responsibility of the LA.

An EHCP can cover health care provision too in section G. Although this isn’t always as easy to enforce.
