How long should I wait for school SEN passport?

DS was recently diagnosed with ASD, school acknowledged receipt of report and said they'd be in touch to discuss the draft SEN passport. I have no experience so have no idea how long these things normally take - it's been nearly 2 weeks, should I chase it up or AIBU to think it should be ready yet?

According to this in Twinkl the SEN Passport requires the input of Parents and the Pupil so if the school haven't been in touch yet I would definitely contact them and ask when you'll be having a meeting to discuss your DC's needs.

SENCOs are generally underpaid and overworked and it's often a case of those Parents who keep chasing them up are the ones that get the help.

Have you applied for an ECHP yet?

I'm very much still learning. We haven't applied for an ECHP, have just googled - do all children in school with autism need to have one? I was thinking the SEN passport that school mentioned would be the same thing. Thanks your help I will chase school on Monday.

I would chase but it wouldn’t be unusual to take more than 2 weeks.

A school SEN passport isn’t the same thing as an EHCP. An EHCP is a formal legal document. A school SEN passport isn’t and is a school level SEN Support document.

Not all children with SEN have an EHCP.

That's really helpful, thank you
