Hello, my son was receiving dla but has now turned 16, I've applied for pip for him and have recieved a letter saying he'll be having a phone assessment next week, they want to talk to me first then him after. he has asd and likes to know exactly what's going to happen and be asked.
Could anyone let me know a few things they'll ask him so I can tell him in advance please?!
He hates talking to people, especially strangers so I have no idea how it'll go but I'm hoping if I can prepare him slightly it'll go smoothly

I'd say don't prepare him if possible. They need to see how he would react. Dc didn't have any warning of pip assessment (they just rang him) he couldn't communicate effectively, he ended up passing me the phone and I asked him the questions in a way he could respond and relay them to the assessor. Sort of proved our point re communication.
If you want to give him an idea of topics eg taking medication, cooking, getting public transport so he knows what areas may be discussed. And make it clear to him it's a negative process and they need to hear the bad days not the good days.

I wouldn’t prepare DS either. But they will ask after daily life (e.g. about school/what he does outside of school), the activities the points are based on. They may ask a bit of his history.

If you are appointee, you can speak on DS’s behalf. Some assessors will try to insist they must speak to DS, but if he can’t, you can speak for him for the whole appointment.

Thankyou both, I am his appointee so that's good to know as I think he may struggle, he's very blunt so it'll be yes or no answers, I think if they ask him to explain things he will get overwhelmed.
