When going to the toilet for Ds is a trigger

Just that, Ds won’t go to the toilet, he will urinate outside in the garden despite pecs etc and taking him previously but now he’s bigger and 16, he just won’t use the toilet , he needs help with all aspects of self care and largely nonverbal so he can’t tell me why. But it means he desperately needs a bowel
movement and holds it in till bath time at 7pm, does anyone have any ideas as to how to get it included in his day - school have fixed times, I have done that also, but then it’s only me and now he’s bigger it’s quite dangerous as he will hit out and I can’t force him up the stairs!
any ideas?

Have you tried a commode downstairs? Or even a bottle for passing urine? Do you think a downstairs toilet would help longer term?

I can’t fit a downstairs toilet in but I’ll definitely order a commode!

Ask OT/equipment services if they can help with a commode.

If a downstairs toilet would help longer term, I was thinking about a Disabled Facilities Grant. A DFG could fund an extension. Although the process isn’t quick.

Thanks you @BrightYellowTrain i couldn’t physically fit a downstairs toilet in, even with an extension , but a
commode has been ordered. I think it’s the actual demand, we have the same issue all of sudden with bedtime and religious in goads, despite countdowns, prompts, switching off lights, etc.
but withholding bowel movement also leads to behaviours and it becomes a cycle.

We had success today for the first time using the commode. Completely deflated the aggression by not forcing him upstairs and hopefully eased the bowel feeling - not much (sorry tmi) but it worked!

Glad the commode worked. I hope it continues to help.
