Dla help

Hello everyone

my child is currently getting dla and was awarded until the day before he turns 17
However I received a letter saying that once he turns 16 in a few weeks he’ll be receiving a letter to apply for PIP and the dla payments will stop
he doesn’t want to apply for pip and I was just wandering will the dla stop once he turns 16 or will they continue to pay me until the end date written on our dla claim letter which is the day before he turns 17
sorry to ask on here but I can’t seem to get through to them on the phone

If DS, or his appointee if he will have one, doesn’t apply for PIP, DLA will stop.

Awards are often made until the day before the young person’s 17th birthday in order to give time for the outcome of the PIP claim to be determined because DLA continues to be paid until a decision about the PIP claim has been made.

@BrightYellowTrain thank you so much for taking the time to explain it for me
that makes sense

I am in the same boat! No idea what the pip assessment is going to be like or whether we will be awarded it even though he's had the dla for a few years.
