DD has just landed a little surprise, could do with talking to someone

DD has AudHD amongst a could a few other things. Massively struggled with High School but has had her diagnosis since and has done a College Course and a PT job and has landed herself an apprenticeship.

We have been very proud. Possibly too proud. You know what they say, Pride comes before a fall.

DD is now 3 months into her apprenticeship and has said tonight that she wants to leave immediately. Insists that nothing has happened and just keeps saying it's not for her.

Due to her language limitations I'm unlikely to get much more out of her than that unfortunately. She isn't really able to express how she feels.

Think I just needed to tell someone, she doesn't want me to tell DH.

Tomorrow she has College and she's going to talk to her Assessor on Thursday.

I've discussed staying till the end of the year to get her next qualification and she says she doesn't want to do that.

She wants to go back to her old PT job, which she doesn't even know is available and all of the people have changed anyway and "look for something else". What that something else would be without A'Levels or a degree though I have no idea.

Apprenticeships can be difficult socially for some with difficulties with communication and interaction. What support is DD receiving?

Does DD have an EHCP? If so, a supported internship may work better.

Does DD take medication?

Thanks for replying @BrightYellowTrain Wink

None. I don't know if she's revealed her diagnosis.

Does DD have an EHCP?

She only had her diagnosis a couple of months ago. Things went off the rails in the November in Y11 by then I figured it was a bit too late to apply? She was fine in College last year and working alongside.

Does DD take medication. No we're still waiting for the medication team to get back to us.

Encourage DD to disclose. You could look at support via the Access to Work scheme.

Request an EHCNA. A supported internship may work better, but for that you will need an EHCP. EHCPs can last until 25, or 26 in some cases, so not too late. In case it is relevant to anyone reading, you don’t need a diagnosis for an EHCP.

An EHCP could also provide therapies - OT, SALT, mental health therapies. And ADHD coaching.

I can understand your frustration, DD did something similar last year and since then has been dismissed from two jobs and now looking for voluntary work, which seems to be taking ages. She is pretty fed up, low confidence because of these things and we've discussed that it's better to stick at something until you've actually found something else to go to - could suggest that. Not easy though once mind is made up!!

Thanks so much for this. Another complication is that we live in one County and she works in another. Will they have an effect?

Thank you @duvet. That's exactly how we're trying to guide her.

It must be so hard watching your DD struggle like that Flowers

That isn’t a problem at all.

Thanks again @BrightYellowTrain Flowers
