College support for recently diagnosed asd

DD received her ASD diagnosis just before her 18th birthday. She has just started her college course following 2 years retaking GCSE’s to improve her grades as it was during years 10 and 11 that she really struggled at school.

Now that she is at college we have advised about her ASD diagnosis and that she also has dyslexia and slow processing. However she is not receiving support from the college and I thought now that we have a diagnosis this would make things easier for her to get the support she needs.

What support is there that she could be getting and how do I go about getting this for her? I contacted the college and they said they would talk to her but so far they haven’t.

Support is based on needs, not diagnosis. An ASD diagnosis wouldn’t automatically result in more support.

Does DD have an EHCP?

Contact the SEN department about further support. They could look at things like a laptop/assistive tech, providing handouts/powerpoints etc. prior to the lessons, providing handouts rather than expecting DD to copy, exam access arrangements, somewhere quieter to go. It depends on what DD’s needs are.
