LD and jobs

Has anyone’s DC with moderate LD managed to get a job? My DC has completed a supported internship this year but it’s not been without problems especially finding placements which are accessible. I’ve been hopeful of them finding a part time job but there’s not a lot out there, especially one that would be supportive and supervise as needed.
Anyone got any advice for where we could
look? Any positive stories would be good to hear too!

What type of employment are you looking for?

Depending on where you live, Mencap might have a programme in your area.

Anything, literally anything I think that gives them some structure and purpose. Although they have an EHCP for MLD they are capable I feel just need a supportive, understanding employer. I’m not confident they exist any more. Going to try local
job centre for SEN support. Just wondered if anyone had any similar experiences to share.

I know Asda is quite supportive. Depending on DC’s needs, the Civil Service can be supportive too.

I also know two young men who are happy working for the NHS. One is a porter. The other part of the facilities team. Although I suspect whether the NHS is supportive depends on the team and trust.

Think it does depend on the area.

Our local big Sainsbury's has always employed people with some LD. one of our local MacDonalds franchises is equally supportive. That might be quite rare though.
