Looks bit scruffy

My DD (adult) has ADHD/ASD. Both diagnosis were received late but she’s slowly getting her life together. She’s recently met a girl she likes and is now dating her, I’m just so happy she’s found someone. The only issue I have is my DD always looks a bit scruffy. She’s put on a bit of weight due to her love of anything sweet, and has now gone up a clothes size. Whilst she does change her clothes her general appearance doesnt always look that great. Her hair, she literally does nothing with it, just washes it then lets it dry.

I’m resistant to say anything to her, anyone else dealing/dealt with similar? Advice welcome, thanks

well it hasn’t stopped her getting a new girlfriend!

How old is your daughter?

does she work?

As long as DD isn’t neglecting hygiene, which doesn’t sound like it is the case, I wouldn’t say anything.

Apart from occasionally missing a shower, hygiene isn’t a problem (thankfully). I just wish she didn’t look like she’d been pulled through a hedge backwards.

To be honest I think there's two teenage / young adult styles - dragged through a hedge backwards or Botox / big lips / huge eyebrows. I'd just let her get on with it. Remind yourself it's no reflection on you now she is older.

I was a lot like this when I was younger. I just couldn't have cared less how I looked and dressed in what was comfortable, until the clothes started to fall apart. It drove my mum up the wall! I got better in my 20s but I'm not really sure why. I'll never be fashionable or particularly well groomed but I'm a healthy weight and don't stand out as looking different.

I find it hard to book appointments for things like getting my hair or eyebrows done so I've learned to do it myself at home which helps.

Thanks. Even once she’s had a shower and gets dressed everything is done quickly, doesn’t really brush her hair properly. She has favourite clothes, but certainly not very many. I can’t see it changing ever, so will just have to get over it.

Finding hairstyles that don't require much in the morning really helps me. Took a while though to figure out that this is what I needed.
