Cares allowance and access to nursing(distance learning)

I’m currently on cares allowance from looking after my child with sever learning difficulties. I’m planning to take access to nursing course online. It just says I can study within 2 years and study at my own pace. I understand that if I was studying full-time, I was not entitled to cares allowance. Im wondering if I’m still eligible for it if I take the nursing course at online college. Do I also have to let DWP know about it ? I would be grateful if anyone could help me with this. Thank you.

Yes, you will need to inform DWP. As long as you are classed as a part-time student studying for less than 21 hours per week, you can still be eligible for CA.

Thank you for your comment. The thing which makes me confused is how I can work out the distance learning course is full-time or part-time. It doesn’t mentioned on the course website. It just says ‘Flexible learning; study when it suits, at your pace’. I think the government should provide more clear information with this.

If you are unsure, speak to the provider. Will you be studying for more than 21hrs per week?
