My daughter has developmental language delay. The school SENCO thinks she should keep trying to do functional skills maths but it seems more wordy to me than the GCSE. She struggles so much to understand the question while being able to do the maths. Can anyone please help me as I really don’t know which she should take? She’s finished GCSEs and is trying to get her Maths so she can take an A level

many thanks

Some who struggle with language find functional skills maths trickier for the reason you mention.

Be aware, if DD got a GCSE grade 3, she would still need to resit maths.

You should check the sixth form would accept functional skills in place of GCSE. Not all will.
