ADHD and extra time in exams

Hello

My son is in Y12 and doing two a levels and one btec. He has a diagnosis of ADHD and is medicated. He is working hard.

i asked for him to have extra time and breaks in his GCSEs and was rejected. I did not persue this. I have asked again for his a levels and have been rejected by the senco again.

She says the rules are very strict and none of his teachers feel he needs extra time.

i want to push more for him this time. Can anyone help me with any advice? Has anyone successfully got extra time and a break when they have initially been rejected before?

Thanks so much in advance.

If you think access arrangements are necessary, speak to the SENCO again. You can see JCQ’s access arrangement guidance here.

To get extra time, DS’s ADHD would need to have a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his speed of working. Staff will need to provide evidence of persistent and significant difficulties and how these substantially impact on teaching and learning. It will also need to be DS’s normal way of working.

Rest breaks are more likely.

A prompter could also be looked at.
