Hello,

My daughter is 14 she has a diagnosis of autism, ADHD, dyslexia. She has been having vision therapy for a year as she struggles to focus her eyes. Doesn’t need glasses on a day to day but if stressed at all - she will get blurry vision to the point she cannot read or see people.

we have worked so hard on all her eye exercises. Then she has mock exams, got stressed and her eyesight went completely blurry again. So we are now back to square one.

anyway… she has been talking a lot about feeling like she is living in a dream - she says it’s like being an extra in her own life - things feel foggy and not really happening. She also has intrusive OCD type thoughts which are causing her some distress. Has weird episodes where she feels faint, gets stomach and chest pain. Has Deja vu a lot. On researching a her symptoms I came across temporal lobe epilepsy and she literally meets every symptom. I am now so worried it’s that and she could end up with permanently damaged eyesight or scarring on her brain.

I have booked GP appointment but can’t get one until 8th April. That just seems crazy. Her GP surgery do have an ‘urgent’ same day appointment option - however I feel so torn. Would you class this as urgent or wait until 8th?

I also feel so sad for her. As if one thing isn’t enough to deal with!

Sounds like it could also be anxiety with dissociation. The blurry vision could be a functional neurological symptom (google FND - functional neurological disorder). Chest pains, stomach aches and feeling faint would also fit with anxiety and/or FND. I am not a professional though.

Try to stay calm. Some people meet every symptom for epilepsy but have FND. If your GP suspects possible epilepsy, they will most likely refer her or book her in for an MRI and an EEG.
