Need a special needs dentist

My stepson aged 14 has Cornelia De Lang Syndrome and needs to see a dentist urgently. He has a nerve exposed and needs to be sedated to even sit in a chair in that environment. We have something from the hospital to spray on it that nunbs it for now but need a dentist urgently. We've been seen by an Emergency Dental group and referred and joined a waiting list. Surely there is another way. Can anyone help please with any advice.

Unfortunately the community dental waiting lists in my area are 2 to 3 years long and that's just for assesment, treatment will be some time after this.

I've had three year olds with rotten painful teeth that have had to wait that long with antibiotics to tide them over when abcesses play up.

Some areas will have private dentists who will offer children's sedation but if your step child has other difficulties associated with the syndrome they are unlikely to offer treatment.

All I can suggest is every time your stepson has acute pain you contact the community service they have been referred to.

It's appalling and has been going on for years . You can try using the media to put pressure on but community are absolutely inundated and because treatment under general anaesthetic needs the use of an operating theatre they can only do a few cases a day and covid means other more "urgent" cases are prioritised in operating theatre use.

It's another case where massive investment is needed to provide a halfway decent service. So sorry can't be of more help.

I would call the special care community dental service to ask if the referral can be made urgent and do they have a cancellation list, but unfortunately there will still be a wait.

My adult daughter (who has LD) has just had dental treatment under GA after being referred by the community dental service and the wait was 19 months. I tried every way possible to get this done more quickly, wrote to MP etc

She actually had the procedure at a different hospital which had a slightly lower waiting time.
