Hi, I am wondering what jobs or careers anybody with dyspraxia or DC young adults/teens are thinking of?

My ds age 21 has dyspraxia and he is down on himself saying he is impractical and doesn't know what to do. He hated working in an office.

He's travelling at the moment and said he is struggling with keeping hold of his possessions and timetables etc.

Thanks in advance.

It's a shame he was unhappy on an office as I was going to suggest civil service/local government. They seem pretty inclusive, not always obviously but in the whole. Maybe try a bit of temping until he finds somewhere he feels fits?

Without being completely specific as I don't know what his skills/interests/academic achievements are, I'd tend to go for something where you are delivered work that you do there and then and not something where he needs to plan, allocate himself tasks etc. If he's anything like my dyspraxia young adult DS. I know you said he hated office work but something like a contact centre type job (not an overly complex one) might be good e.g IT support for digital banking type of thing. Retail is another decent option as you are doing what you need to do and don't have to plan ahead too much. Something like Car valeting or a driving type job? Reception job e.g hotel/office? Post office? Childcare? Cooking/bar work? Ambulance service as a driver?

He should be entitled to reasonable adjustments but it would still be silly to go into something that would stress him out and make him unhappy.

Does he have any hobbies that could be exploited? My DS is considering the Civil services (when and if he graduates) as not all jobs are traditional office type. He'd be particularly interested in the foreign office type thing but has also considered tutoring rather than teaching
