ASD/ADHD DD and her bloody retainers

Will someone please give me some tips on how to get DD(16) to wear her retainers. She's already list the bottoms one and says she's wearing the top one but she isn't.

Any comments about getting her to wear them she takes as criticism and gets angry and upset.

Any tips would be very gratefully appreciated.

Has nobody else been through this?

Yes, but I don’t really have any answers, so I’m not expecting my comment to be very helpful.

Braces were utterly awful for my ASD/ADHD son, who hated everything about them.
He already had sensory issues around tooth brushing and hated being touched by strangers.
He lost his retainers constantly.
In the end his orthodontist resorted to fixed retainers, but he’s a young adult now and it’s very difficult to chivvy him along to the dentist so crikey knows what’s actually happening in there now.

I wish I had known that there was a orthodontist at our local children’s hospital, my son’s teeth were bad enough to qualify for NHS orthodontics via a high street orthodontic practice, but in hindsight a hospital referral would’ve been better because the hospital ortho works with teens who have comorbid disabilities or serious illnesses, so they have extra long appointments and work with more challenging patients day in, day out, so are better at communicating with SEN teens and more able to adapt a treatment plan to work around the comorbid difficulties.
Plus they can discharge to the community dental service for long term follow up.
