Specialist solicitor for writing wills involving special needs adult children?

Hello

I hope you can help. My DSis has recently passed away unexpectedly and leaves BIL and two SN adult children aged 20 and 23. They have power of attorney for the 20yo but not the 23yo. In reality neither are capable of managing their own finances. They have long term severe mental health issues rather then physical issues if that makes any difference.

It turns out that DSis and BIL made their wills before they married so they are invalid. BIL will inherit everything from DSis under intestacy rules but he now needs to make a will asap which will need to cater for the fact the DC cannot look after their own money so some sort of trust will need to be used. For various reasons family members will not be able to be trustees. It will also need to cater for the fact no family members will be in a position to take over their care.

If relevant BIL's whole estate is likely to be around £200k so not big.

I assume there are specialist solicitors who deal with this situation? Can anyone please point me in the right direction.

Thank you for your help.

You might find contacting Mencap helpful.

No personal recommendation, sorry, the person we used was a friend of a friend of DH’s who is now retired.

I used this solicitor to obtain court of protection deputyship and was really happy with her (but haven't used for wills/trusts).

Just to add, she is not local to me but I did pay a local solicitor just to certify my documents to send.
