Government trust fund maturing

So my DS is nearly 17 and has SLD, hasn’t got the capacity to deal with money
We have paid into his government child trust fund and he will have a substantial amount when it matures
i thought he had a bank account, which I pay all his benefits into, but apparently it’s only a saving account, with me being the named account holder
After some research, it seems the only way it can be released, is by us becoming a deputy by court of protection and then paying it into the above mentioned bank account
any tips for filling in the forms would be gratefully received- thanks

There is a campaign about this. It is worth reading Contact’s information here. Unfortunately, this is an issue many parents with DC without capacity come across. I would start by speaking to the provider, some are more receptive to working with parents without the need for the CoP (either via deputyship or just a application based on a specific issue like the CTF) than others. Although that may be less likely with a substantial sum, it is worth a try.

Thanks, I’ll contact the HSBC - it’s looks like so much hassle to let him have what he’s entitled to

We are going through this at the moment. My son has £800 in his trust fund and it will cost us £371 to apply for a court of protection. I got advice from CAB. I can give you the info if you dm me

They are debating this issue next Tuesday 19th in Parliament. If you check out 'Contact' there's info on there and how to e mail your mp to attend. I'm gonna sit tight till I have a bit more info but I'm sure nothing will change overnight. I'll get those bits to you

Yes, I got the email this afternoon and have sent it to my local MP
We will hang fire with instructing our solicitor for a little bit
Thanks in advance
