EBSA - help

My DD has been off school since October half-term with EBSA bar the odd lesson, struggling with what to do as she's at an independent school so they don't seem to have referrals to the ed psychs in the same way and they've been pretty useless to be honest.

Have been given some names privately but everyone has really long waiting lists. Have her on a waiting list to get tested for ASD / ADHD in March (booked in September!) but that seems too long away now. Spoken to her GP and we are on waiting list for CAMHS. Starting with a private therapist next week.

Don't know how long we hang on trying to get her back in, whether we move schools or if that will make it worse. Divorced from her dad and homeschooling isn't an option for either of us.

I have ADHD myself and think she has it too, school thinks she might be ASD instead but I think all the ASD characteristics she shows at school are anxiety-related as she doesn't have them at home. She has also never had an obsession or special interest in that way - she flits from one thing to the next. I am happy to have her assessed though as I want her to be understood and to be able to understand herself too.

Not really asking anything but I know lots of other people are going through it, it feels so isolating so have come here rather than screaming into the void. Would love to connect with other parents going through this.

I've tried to join the Not Fine In School Facebook group but my request has been pending for weeks so not sure if it'a active, but any other places / support groups would be great.

If DD is compulsory school age and she can’t attend school full time, the LA has a statutory duty to ensure she receives a suitable, full-time education. Email the Director of Children’s Services about this. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use. Post back here if the LA refuse, ignore or delay and you will be advised of the next steps.

Alongside this you can request EHCNA. IPSEA also has a model letter for this. Appeal if refused.

thank you so much for this. I have asked the GP for a letter so we can provide evidence. Will apply for an ECHP too. It's so stressful. Feels like everyone is trying to shake responsibility for her.

You don’t need to wait for GP evidence before requesting s.19 provision &/or an EHCNA.
