ASD Teen Holiday

Does anyone have any experience of holidays suitable for high-functioning teen ASD? Kind of too old to hang out with parents but not ready to go alone.

We’ve always enjoyed camping occasionally, just the two of us. it allows him to have space if he needs it and it’s out in open space and nature. Also DS doesn’t like the typical resort holidays as he doesn’t like to feel ‘baby’d’

Thanks BloominFlower, that's helpful

What kind of holidays do you normally enjoy?

mildlyfried · 18/01/2024 11:41

I'd like the freedom to go abroad more @PinkMimosa . I think my son would benefit from being away from us for a holiday and develop some independence. It's tricky at he gets older. I can't find anything suitable for a 20 year old.

Maybe go on a city break together but with time for him to do things on his own.

That's a good idea thanks

Does he have a carer? Somewhere like the Calvert Trust could be an option if so. It's activity based with lower key evenings. They have sites in Exmoor, the Lakes and Northumberland.

Thanks I'll take a look
