PIP when DLA claim still being processed

Hello, looking for some help.
DD15 was diagnosed with autism this summer, private route due to wait times. One of the assessors suggested I apply for DLA on the basis of her needs.

I finally managed to do this last week but from the DLA wait times thread, it looks like the claim won't be looked at before she turns 16.

When should I start the PIP process? I'll need to complete the forms and manage the money, she won't speak to strangers and would not be able to use the benefit to book therapy etc.

And will they still award DLA and back date it, even if she's 16 by the time they get to it? As it's not her fault they are taking 5 months!

Thank you

The DLA claim will still be looked at even if DD is 16 by the time it reaches the top of the pile.

Personally, if you haven’t had a decision about DLA by the time DD is 16, I would suggest DD, or you as appointee, applies for PIP.

I was just wondering if anyone knows how long the dla claims are currently taking to assess, thanks

Most are taking 17-20 weeks. Occasionally quicker, occasionally longer.
