Hi all, my ds in 13 years old and in a mainstream secondary school. He's Autistic and also has type 1 diabetes and recently has developed a tic disorder. He really struggles with making friends and social situations but managed to make a friend when he started in year 7 and they became best friends.
However his friend has now decided to move tutor groups due to bullying from others and has made some new friends. He has started distancing himself from ds.
Ds messaged him today to ask how his Summer has been and he hopes they can still meet up at lunchtimes and maybe his friend could introduce him to his new friends and they all hang out. His friend responded with I might be able to see you twice a week at a lunchtime sports club but we can only hang out alone and if others aren't around. He also said that he doesn't want to introduce him to his new friends and he can't hand out with them. His friend said you don't understand geography and politics and that's what we will be talking about. DS finds it hard to seem like he is listening and understanding and takes him a little longer but is the most kindest gentlest boy and would do anything for anyone.
My ds is really upset as he helped and supported his friend while his friend was getting bullied and now his friend is excluding him.
ds has no other friends and says he will spend lunchtimes in the quiet room alone. Not sure why I'm posting this but just breaks my heart to see him lonely and not sure what to do to help him 😔

That’s really sad op. That’s really unkind thing to do to your ds. Is there anyone else at school that he can hang around with? Maybe when it’s time to go back either email/phone speak to form tutor or pastoral team at the school. They might be able to help you. 💐💐
