Autism Getting Worse

My DS was diagnosed as being autistic in November last year at the age of 18. Since then he seems to be getting worse in terms of his anxiety is really in high in that it is stopping him doing things he wants to, rigid thinking and fussy eating. I don't know whether we are more aware of these things or he is getting worse.

He had none of these signs as a young child but was always shy which was something we thought he would grow out. It was only after the first lockdown in 2020 that his anxiety worsened

I was just wondering if anyone else had also experienced this.

It may be that now DS is diagnosed he doesn’t feel he has to mask or that he can’t mask anymore. Or it could be burnout.

Thanks @OvertakenByLego. Does anyone have any insight into autistic burnout eg how long it lasts and how you can support the person experiencing this.

Burnout can last varies amounts of time. Reducing demands often helps. How is DS’s sleep and eating?

Is DS receiving any support? Is he in education or work? Is he receiving any benefits?

This is what happened after my dd was diagnosed at 16. Suddenly she couldn’t stand things she’d always been okay with. It lasted about 6 months and she’s settled down with it and is in a better place now.
