Hand hold for GCSE results

So the big day is Thursday! DD (autistic) is getting her results and I’m extremely worried about what is going to happen. She’s very clever but massive anxiety around exams. Prior to the actual GCSE’s never completed a set of exams so almost always got low marks. Teachers never moved her out of the top sets so believe her to have the ability.
Between school and us, we did a huge amount of work around managing exam stress and she completed all her exams (massive achievement in itself) but she refused to revise as it made the anxiety worse!
We have no idea what is coming, results wise and how dd will cope if it goes wrong.

Good luck. DD getting her results tomorrow too. She is NT, but has issues around anxiety and she doesn’t find school a breeze. Just waiting and hoping. Hope all goes well for you both tomorrow.

Good luck for today AnaS and to your dd too BrilliantDaisy. . ds2 is just waiting for the results of one (English) but is in the fortunate position that he does not need it for the next step. Like your dd the mere fact that he sat the exams is an accomplishment as English has been problematic to say the least for years.

Thank you both. Update is she did amazingly well and moving into 6th form this week. Such a relief!
How did you both get on? Hope you’re ok x

Well done young Anas. Hope she enjoys sixth form. ds2 managed a pass. Great relief. Now we can forget about English forever and he can look forward to his uni course .

First of all congratulations and good luck to your DCs.
We are ok. DD has to move school though, so she is devastated. We have a place elsewhere for A levels/ BTEC and she is gradually coming round to it. The previous school have been unhelpful/ terrible. Bizarrely the school have had a good reputation for pastoral care for years and have an interesting more practical route an available. That was why we chose it for DD.
Change of SLT means a change to all that and DD is not welcome. We deleted the email they sent, as we didn’t want DD to see it. They also made her wait a week to let her know.

Onwards and upwards.
Good luck to you and your DCs.

AnaS, do you mind me being nosy and asking if you found any of the GCSEs subjects less stressful than others with regards to ASC? DD needs to start thinking about her options soon and like so many with ASC, finds revision challenging. I'm wary of History/Geography (so much content!), Music (composition = perfectionism, aaagh), Drama (group work, double aaagh) etc. Thinking R.E might be the best bet for Humanities, and possibly something like Business Studies? Do ignore me if this is too personal!

Hi. Dd found the btec style (she did sport) easiest as a large proportion is coursework so less pressure around exam time. RE she struggled with initially until she realised that there often isn’t an exact answer (she likes things black and white!) then she did well. She did pretty well at history as she remembered dates quite well and is very interested (obsessed!) with human rights and could relate that to American history and the war.
Hope that helps a bit x
