Can’t find any posts about this so far so forgive me if it’s already been discussed.
I have an adult daughter with profound physical needs. She uses a wheelchair and a communication device. She needs all personal care done for her- washing, cleaning her teeth, feeding etc. Emotionally she functions like a child around 10. She has been through special school, residential college and now lives at home with me and my husband and goes to day activities 3 days a week.
Up until now we have not had carers as she takes a while to get used to people and it’s been easier to do it myself but I am in my mid sixties and find it hard now. Since COVID the respite service has stopped and never been restarted ….it was awful anyway- some of the things that happened there were inexcusable and although some of the staff were good and kind they never seemed to last long and you were left with the lazy ones who had no interest in the job and that was evident.
In brief, if you have employed a PA/Carer for a family member that was not from an agency where on earth did you get them? There was that awful case in Chichester recently and I am mindful of having someone in my home that I am putting a lot of trust in.
