I've already posted this in Neurodiverse Mumsnetters by mistake but thought this belonged here.

My son is 15, he spent most of his childhood overseas, moving back here when he was 12.

I have always had a sense that he may be on the spectrum and as he get older this worries me more and more. When he was at nursery school he used to hide under the table with his hands over his ears when they sang nursery rhymes. He has always had an aversion to some textures or sounds. For example, he has never been able to stand the scratchy noise of pencils when he writes so has refused to use one since early childhood and uses erasable pens. Throughout his school life he has always been well behaved but unmotivated with school work, disorganised and distracted. When we bring up concerns with us he just goes mute and doesn't respond and it becomes so frustrating. He seems to find it difficult to maintain friendships; I know from him at home that he doesn't know when to stop. Say for example he is doing something that is annoying and is asked to stop he will carry on until the person gets annoyed with him; it is like he doesn't recognise the small hints that someone doesn't like what he is doing. I can see why that would irritate others.

He tends to get obsessed with things and interests, doesn't like any sport , always seems a bit uncoordinated but goes to the gym twice a week, alone.
I have mentioned to the school my fears and also the GP a couple of times but have always had my fears dismissed.
I really worry for him as he goes into adulthood how this is going to impact him if he is neurodivergent but has never received help and support.

Please can ayone advise or share their experiences.

It seems like an assessment may be warranted.

I think it's worth getting an assessment to.
