Dd has adhd and is struggling to get to school. She is doing a levels. She hasn't been at school since feb half term. This is due to her adhd and not being able to cope.

I have been supportive of her choices and don't feel school is the right environment for her. I'd rather she found another path.

However I've noticed she is on TikTok and u tube for a unacceptable amount of time into the night.

She isnt helping herself get up for school or move on.

Would you restrict her account. Either the hours on those apps or stop her usage after midnight.

We pay for her phone. She is 17.

I suggested this a few times and she goes mad at me so maybe I just need to do it.

Please help.

what are you and her doing to find that other path?
what is she doing on a day to day basis? Just at home looking at screen and mooching?

is she on medication?

this sounds like it’s achieving nothing and not helping her. Empty aimless days are good for no one.

yes I would restrict given you are paying for it

At the moment she is insisting she is going back to sixth form but day after day it never happens.

She is very demand avoidance with us as well which doesn't help.

But I believe she is addicted to doomscrolling as many of the things she used to do for fun she no longer does

She is in sertraline for anxiety but she hasn't had success with stimulants so far.

So is she literally doing nothing all day every day?

Pretty much. Though at Easter she went out a lot with friends and I thought we had turned a corner Now term has started she is back to bed and phone. She will get up to go on ps5 for a few hours sometimes. She was a different person over Easter. It's definitely school related.

Do you have any plan whatsoever?

what have the school said?

she won’t be permitted to return to sixth form if she’s not currently attending school to do her a levels. So you need to manage her expectation of that.

you need to make her home life… less easy to spent 16 hours a day doing squat all.
So she’s up when everyone gets up, she cleans, grocery shops, cooks.
