Hi, has any body heard of the term "Pathological Demand Avoidance"? I haven't met a single person who has even heard of it, let alone know what it is. I suspected my daughter had PDA from age 14yrs but she refused help even then. She's now 20yrs old, still refusing help, stuck in her room like a prisoner and dropped out of sixth form during the Pandemic in 2020. Can anybody give advice?

It is far more likely to be can’t engage than DD refusing/won’t engage. The help needs altering so DD can get to a point where she can engage.

Does DD have an EHCP?

Does she receive PIP and UC?

Hi, sorry, what are EHPC and PIP? I'm guessing UC is universal credit. She's not going out for anything and mostly stays in her room, so she doesn't even get universal credit. Thanks

An EHCP is an education, health and care plan. On their website IPSEA have a model letter you can use to request a needs assessment.

PIP is personal independence payment. You should apply for PIP and UC for DD. You can ask to become DD’s appointee so you can apply for her behalf.

You should also request social care assessments. A carer’s assessment for you and an assessment for DD.
