Hi - I am going to renew ds1's Uk passport - he is nearly 19. We have guardianship in place. He can't read or write or understand what's involved. Can we sign on his behalf ? Is the guardianship certificate enough or do we need more ?

You can apply on DS’s behalf. These 2 documents cover what happens when someone can’t consent to the application themselves, what evidence you need and what happens if the person can’t sign their passport.

I applied on my daughter's behalf. Her passport is 7 years old but I just had to provide a declaration that she had severe learning difficulties and was unable to sign. It does state on her current passport that the holder is not required to sign. We have guardianship in place now so I could enclose a copy of the court order if necessary now. It was hard getting a picture that would fit the criteria too.
