DD (17) has anxiety and depression and has been assessed for neurodivergence. She got the results today and was very upset as the result is that her scores across the board do not reach the threshold for a diagnosis but she does score highly in some areas. She indicated the therapist suggested this is because the tests are skewed towards more male presentations and apologised that she couldn't give DD a diagnosis. DD is distressed because, understandably, she wanted 'an answer'.
I have not spoken to the therapist and need to know more about what the results say but our appointment isn't until 9th January. I am aware that what DD heard and what she took away may not be quite what the therapist was trying to tell her. I am also aware that understanding of autism in women and girls is an evolving so there may be an issue here.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts/experiences in this area. I need to know what help to get her to support her in her anxiety treatment (and life). It seems now the assessment is done and she doesn't have an autism diagnosis the plan is to put her back on the CAMHS waiting-list (and leave her there) which is not good news - last time I checked, they couldn't even say what the waiting time was (although I think they are meant to be obliged to tell you that info?)
Any advice for reading, groups, type of therapy etc gratefully received.
