hi - my DS(15) is ASD (verbal, high functioning) with complex layers overlapping issues with ADHD, sensory related issues etc. He has always been sensitive to sudden sounds - but lately he goes into absolute anger and raging fit when he hears a child crying - especially in closed environment like an aeroplane. We noticed its gotten so worse in last 6-8 months - his behaviour could be easily construed as threatening. His anger is so visible on his face, thick voice and gestures. he shouts back at child/parents, even try to charge at them. Trying to get him calm by asking him wearing headsets and listen to music is making it even worse. His reaction is so strong that he doesnt want to try (in fact rejects) any calming techniques saying 'I am going to explode '. We just wondered if anyone had experience of such kind with your child .. where selective sounds are sending them to anger/rage as we are at loss on how to mange when we are out and about. thank you

Sounds like his nervous system gets overloaded by all the stimulus. Look up nervous system regulation and Safe and Sound Protocol. I used to be massively enraged by my husband putting the dishes away. My nervous system would trigger me into fight mode and I would literally have to stop myself from attacking him. It's bonkers but I have had some therapy that has helped massively. Kids with ASD almost always have sensory sensitivity and noise is a bit one for me.
